PROPHET Muhammad had a cat named Mueeza. Once, when the Prophet was about to take his robe, Mueeza was asleep on it. Not wanting to disturb his favorite animal, the prophet was cut off parts of the arms of the robe which were laid by Mueeza.
When the Prophet returned home, Muezza woke up and stooped down to his master. In return, the Prophet expressed his affection by caressing the cat three times.
Whenever the Prophet receiving guests at his house, the prophet always carried Mueeza and put it in his thigh. One of the Mueeza’s habit that the Prophet liked was Mueeza used to meow when heard adzan, and Mueeza’s voice sounded like following the call of adzan.
To his companions, the Prophet advised to love cat, as dearest to his own family.
For those who hurt the cat, the punishment is very serious, as in an authentic hadith Al Bukhari, a woman who never feeds the cat, nor releases the cat to feed themselves, the Prophet Muhammad explained that the punishment for this woman is the torments of hell.
From Ibn Umar that Allah’s Apostle said, “A woman entered Hell because it binds into a cat and not fed even not allowed to eat small animals which are on the floor,” (HR. Bukhari).
Prophet affirmed in some traditions that the cat was not unclean. Even allowed to perform ablutions use excess water drinking cat because it was considered sacred. []
